Chromecast Audio (Google Cast)
Google Cast (formerly Chromecast Audio) is Google's wireless audio streaming protocol. Casts from Android, Chrome browser, and cast-enabled apps to compatible speakers over Wi-Fi. Lower quality than AirPlay 2 in practice but wider Android integration.
Google Cast (the protocol formerly branded “Chromecast Audio”) lets you stream audio from any cast-enabled app or Chrome browser tab to compatible speakers over Wi-Fi. Similar concept to AirPlay 2 but from the Google/Android ecosystem.
Supported apps
Spotify, YouTube Music, Pandora, Tidal, most Android media apps, Chrome browser tabs.
Quality
Streams up to 24-bit / 96 kHz depending on app and receiver. In practice most apps stream lower (Spotify Connect over Cast is 320 kbps Ogg Vorbis).
Where you’ll find it
