Bi-amping
Bi-amping uses two separate amplifier channels per speaker - one for the woofer, one for the tweeter. Requires speakers with removable jumper straps and dual binding post pairs. Can improve dynamic range and reduce intermodulation distortion.
Bi-amping means driving one speaker with two amplifier channels: one channel per driver group (usually low frequencies + mid/high frequencies). Speakers must have bi-wire binding posts (two positive + two negative terminals with removable jumpers).
Advantages
- Each amp handles a narrower frequency range – less intermodulation distortion
- More total power available per speaker
- Bass driver draws current independently of the tweeter driver
How to bi-amp on a budget
Two AIYIMA A20 MONO amps + one bi-wire-capable bookshelf pair = passive bi-amping setup. Or use a stereo amp for tweeters + a mono amp for woofers. Requires matching gain between amps.
