Wi-Fi 6 audio streaming

Wi-Fi 6 (802.11ax) is the current-generation Wi-Fi standard, superseding Wi-Fi 5 (802.11ac). Improvements benefit audio streaming:

• OFDMA – lets router handle multiple devices simultaneously without contention
• Lower latency – better for real-time audio
• Better range at same power output
• MU-MIMO improvements – stronger throughput to multiple devices

Audio use case

Wi-Fi 6 solves the “everyone streaming at once = my music dropouts” problem in busy households. Multi-room audio (Sonos, AirPlay 2) benefits enormously.

Compatibility

Requires Wi-Fi 6 router AND Wi-Fi 6 client (streamer). Older Wi-Fi 5 devices work on Wi-Fi 6 networks but don’t get the benefits. The Fosi Audio S3 has Wi-Fi 6.
