Monoblock amplifier
TL;DR
A monoblock amp contains one amplifier channel per chassis - you need two for stereo. Advantages: no crosstalk, dedicated power supply per channel, easier placement close to each speaker. Fosi V3 mono and AIYIMA A20 MONO are budget monoblock options.
A monoblock amplifier is a single-channel power amplifier – one chassis, one power stage, one input, one speaker output. Stereo systems require two monoblocks (one per speaker channel).
Advantages over stereo
- Zero crosstalk – completely separate signal paths
- Dedicated power supply per channel – one channel’s bass draw doesn’t sag voltage for the other
- Placement flexibility – each monoblock can sit near its speaker; short speaker cables, long line-level runs
- Upgrade path – buy one now, add second later; or scale later to 3.1 / 5.1
Budget options
AIYIMA A20 MONO pair = ~$260 for dual-mono TPA3255. Fosi V3 mono = similar tier. Both punch well above their price for dedicated 2-channel rigs.
