JAS Hi-Res Audio certification
JAS (Japan Audio Society) is the standards body behind the Hi-Res Audio gold logo. Products must meet minimum specs: 40 kHz+ frequency response (speakers/headphones) or 24-bit / 96 kHz playback (DACs/streamers) to earn the logo.
JAS (Japan Audio Society) is the industry body that maintains the Hi-Res Audio certification program. The gold Hi-Res Audio logo you see on gear is JAS-certified.
Certification criteria
- Digital source (DAC, streamer) – must play back 24-bit / 96 kHz or higher
- Analog transducers (headphones, speakers) – must have frequency response reaching 40 kHz or higher
- Amplifiers – flat frequency response to at least 40 kHz
Practical relevance
The logo tells you a product is capable of hi-res playback – useful as a spec floor. Does not guarantee superior sound quality vs a well-designed 44.1 kHz CD-quality-only product.
