Ethernet audio streaming

Modern Ethernet connections outperform Wi-Fi for audio streaming in several ways:

• Zero packet loss in normal use – no dropouts, no re-buffering
• Higher effective bandwidth – 100 Mbps Ethernet is more than enough for uncompressed DSD256; Wi-Fi can be congested
• Lower latency and jitter
• Immune to Bluetooth/microwave/2.4 GHz interference

When to use Ethernet

Always if your streamer has an RJ-45 port. The Fosi Audio S3 has 100 Mbps Ethernet. Run a Cat 6 cable from your router to the streamer.

Wi-Fi 6 caveat

Modern Wi-Fi 6 handles hi-res streaming fine in most homes. But when you can hardwire, do it.
