aptX Adaptive

aptX Adaptive is the newest codec in Qualcomm’s aptX family. Unlike fixed-bitrate aptX-HD (576 kbps), Adaptive dynamically shifts between 279 and 420 kbps based on signal quality and content type.

Advantages

  • Lower latency than aptX-HD (~50-80ms vs 200ms) – better for video and gaming
  • Adapts to congested Wi-Fi / crowded Bluetooth environments
  • Supports 24-bit / 48-96 kHz hi-res audio at peak quality

Adoption

Present on newer Android phones with Snapdragon Sound. Not as widely supported yet as aptX-HD or LDAC. Apple doesn’t license aptX at all.
